The 2022 Domaine Bruno Clair Morey-Saint-Denis En La Rue de Vergy is 100% Pinot Noir from an elevated village vineyard in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, combining fragrant fruit with a distinctive limestone-driven character. Based in Marsannay-la-Côte, Domaine Bruno Clair produces this cuvée from vines planted in 1980, on a southeast-facing site at approximately 320 metres altitude. The thin, rocky soils lie over Prémeaux limestone and white oolitic limestone, providing a striking setting above Morey-Saint-Denis’s celebrated Grand Cru slopes. This vineyard position makes En La Rue de Vergy particularly interesting for drinkers seeking a village wine with freshness, definition and a clear sense of place.
The 2022 reveals raspberry, dark cherry, black plum and cassis, layered with floral notes, gentle spice and a subtle smoky accent. Its concentrated fruit is balanced by lively acidity, fine tannins and a savoury mineral finish. Jasper Morris MW awarded an early assessment of 91–93 Points, highlighting its precise raspberry character and floral intensity. Neal Martin also awarded 91–93 Points for Vinous, praising its fruit purity, fine tannins and appetising finish, while William Kelley’s 90–92 Points for The Wine Advocate recognised its depth and energy. Together, these assessments describe an expressive young Morey with both generosity and the structure to develop further.
