The 2022 Cloudy Bay Te Wāhi Pinot Noir is a powerful yet refined expression of Central Otago. Initially reserved, the bouquet gradually unfolds with damson, blackberry, plum and sweet sloe, followed by raw cacao, star anise, fragrant spice and subtle vanilla.
On the palate, it is rich and beautifully poised, with an opulent core of dark fruit supported by silky, structured tannins. Notes of forest floor, dried herbs and graphite bring savoury and mineral complexity, while fresh acidity carries the wine through a long, elegant and persistent finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for those who enjoy concentrated Central Otago Pinot Noir with savoury complexity and genuine cellaring potential. Decant for approximately one hour if enjoying young, or cellar for 5–10 years as its spice and earthy character continue to develop. Serve lightly chilled at 12–15°C with slow-roasted lamb, duck, venison, beef Wellington, wild mushrooms or roasted root vegetables.
