The 2022 Camille Giroud Mercurey is a superb village-level Pinot Noir from the Côte Chalonnaise, sourced from a selection of old-vine parcels planted on limestone and clay soils around Mercurey. Under the direction of David Croix, Camille Giroud has transformed into one of Burgundy’s most respected producers, applying the same meticulous vineyard sourcing and restrained winemaking philosophy to its regional and village wines as it does to its Grand Crus. The warm, balanced 2022 vintage has produced wines of excellent fruit concentration, charm and accessibility.
The nose reveals red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry alongside notes of rose petal, baking spice and subtle earthy undertones. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, the palate combines vibrant red fruit with silky tannins, fresh acidity and a gentle mineral edge. The 2022 vintage brings a generosity and approachability that makes the wine immediately appealing, while retaining the freshness and structure that define quality Burgundy. A small proportion of whole bunch fermentation adds aromatic lift and complexity.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A beautifully expressive Burgundy that offers exceptional value and a genuine taste of Pinot Noir from one of the Côte Chalonnaise’s finest appellations. Elegant, fresh and highly food-friendly, it pairs wonderfully with roast chicken, duck, pork loin, mushroom dishes and soft cheeses. Enjoy now and over the next 6–8 years while its vibrant fruit, spice and silky texture are at their peak.
