The 2021 Taupenot-Merme Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru “La Riotte” is a beautifully classical Burgundy from one of Morey-Saint-Denis’ most respected family estates. Domaine Taupenot-Merme has farmed organically since 2001 and is renowned for producing wines of purity, finesse and terroir expression. La Riotte is a highly regarded Premier Cru vineyard situated in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis, an appellation celebrated for wines that combine the elegance of Chambolle-Musigny with the structure of Gevrey-Chambertin.
The 2021 vintage is defined by freshness, precision and mineral transparency. Neal Martin described the wine as having a vivid bouquet of effervescent red fruits intertwined with mineral notes, while critics consistently highlighted its energy, purity and bright character.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely structured, showing flavours of red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant framed by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. At Wine More Cellars, this is a superb example of traditional Morey-Saint-Denis. Compared to Chambolle-Musigny, it offers greater structure and savoury complexity; compared to Gevrey-Chambertin, it is more refined and mineral-driven. The 2021 vintage will appeal to Burgundy purists who appreciate freshness, elegance and site expression over sheer power. While approachable with decanting, this wine will reward patience and develop beautifully over the next 10–15+ years. Drink from 2026 onwards. Perfect with duck, game birds, roast lamb, mushroom dishes and classic French cuisine.
