The 2021 McHenry Hohnen Hazel’s Vineyard Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Margaret River white made from biodynamically grown Gingin clone Chardonnay. The nose shows grapefruit, yellow stone fruit and melon, layered with white florals, grilled nuts, subtle nougat and restrained oak.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with concentrated citrus and stone fruit, creamy lees-derived texture and a precise line of mineral acidity. Hand-picked fruit was whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barriques, including 30% new oak, bringing gentle nutty complexity while maintaining freshness and a long, structured finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Chardonnay drinkers who enjoy generous fruit and creamy texture balanced by bright acidity and refined oak. Enjoy it now or cellar over the next 5–8 years as further savoury complexity develops. Ideal with grilled fish, roast chicken, seared scallops, lobster, creamy seafood dishes or mushroom risotto.
