The 2021 Charles Lesaffre Vouvray Amphoréale is a distinctive single-varietal Chenin Blanc from Domaine des Aubuisières, one of Vouvray’s benchmark estates. Following Bernard Fouquet’s retirement, Charles Lesaffre assumed control of the domaine and introduced new ideas, including the use of sandstone amphorae to enhance texture and terroir expression. Sourced from Vouvray’s classic clay-limestone soils, the wine showcases the precision and minerality of the appellation while adding a unique textural dimension through amphora ageing.
The nose reveals quince, pear and green apple layered with white flowers, beeswax and flinty minerality. The palate is dry, vibrant and beautifully textured, combining citrus and orchard fruit with bright acidity and a distinctive chalky, mineral backbone. Amphora maturation contributes subtle grip and complexity, creating a wine that is both energetic and remarkably refined. The challenging but highly successful 2021 vintage delivered wines of exceptional freshness, balance and classical Loire character.
