The 2020 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo DOCG Cicala is a flagship single-vineyard Barolo from the renowned Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, crafted from 100% Nebbiolo and known for its powerful yet balanced expression. The Cicala vineyard, with its higher clay content, typically produces one of the estate’s more structured and intense wines. The nose is deep and complex, showing notes of black cherry, raspberry and dried rose, layered with licorice, tobacco, spice and earthy mineral nuances.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with firm, grippy tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours of dark fruit, iron, menthol and spice are delivered with precision and energy, supported by a strong mineral backbone. The finish is long, structured and persistent, combining power with elegance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this sits between the finesse of Colonnello and the power of Romirasco, making it a beautifully balanced yet serious Barolo. The 2020 vintage shows a touch more approachability, but it still benefits from aging. Drink from 2027 onwards or cellar for 15–20+ years. Perfect with truffle dishes, braised meats or aged cheeses.
