The 2020 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Perrières is a 100% Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, combining concentrated fruit with the mineral precision that defines this distinguished vineyard. The Carillon family’s winegrowing history stretches back to 1520, and Jacques continues that heritage through wines focused on finesse, balance and vineyard expression. His Les Perrières comes from a 0.61-hectare holding of mature vines, with an élevage of one year in barrel followed by six months in stainless steel. The 2020 received 93 Points from William Kelley of The Wine Advocate in January 2023 and 94 Points from Andy Howard MW of Decanter, reflecting its combination of depth, freshness and classical proportions.
The 2020 reveals citrus zest, crisp apple, white peach and white flowers, layered with toasted almond, hazelnut, pastry cream and a subtle struck-match character. Its medium- to full-bodied palate is satiny yet incisive, with bright acidity and a chalky, saline finish providing definition beneath the fruit. Kelley’s bottled-wine assessment highlighted its taut structure and balance, while Howard praised its understated concentration, purity and lingering freshness. Bill Nanson of Burgundy Report similarly noted a more directional, structured expression than Champs Canet, with mineral complexity building through the middle palate and finish. This is a serious Premier Cru Puligny whose richness remains supported by tension.
