The 2019 McHenry Hohnen Rolling Stone is a flagship Margaret River red from the biodynamically farmed Hazel’s Vineyard, blending Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The nose is layered with blackcurrant, blackberry and dark plum, complemented by violet, cedar, bay leaf and subtle graphite notes.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with dense dark fruit supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. Savoury spice, cedar and a distinctive gravelly character add complexity, leading to a long, structured and persistent finish. The blend comprises 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Malbec, 4% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for collectors and Cabernet blend drinkers who enjoy powerful Margaret River reds with depth, firm structure and savoury complexity. Enjoy it now with decanting or cellar for further development over the next 10–15 years. Ideal with slow-roasted lamb, rib-eye steak, braised beef, mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses.
