The 2019 Château Cap de Faugères is one of the standout wines of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, produced by the Silvio Denz family, owners of the renowned Saint-Émilion estates Château Faugères and Château Péby Faugères. Situated on the limestone plateau east of Saint-Émilion, the estate benefits from exceptional terroir and meticulous vineyard management. The 2019 vintage, widely regarded as one of Bordeaux’s finest in recent years, delivered wines of outstanding ripeness, concentration and balance.
The nose reveals blackberry, black cherry and plum layered with violet, liquorice, dark chocolate and subtle graphite notes. Rich and generous on the palate, it combines ripe dark fruit with velvety tannins, fresh acidity and impressive depth. The blend, dominated by Merlot with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, offers both immediate appeal and genuine ageing potential. James Suckling awarded the wine 93 points, while Wine Enthusiast scored it 92 points, praising its richness, structure and polished texture.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb value Right Bank Bordeaux that delivers remarkable quality for the price. Plush, expressive and beautifully balanced, it pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, beef short ribs, duck, mushroom dishes and hard cheeses. Drinking beautifully now with a short decant, but it has the structure to evolve gracefully through 2035 and beyond.
