The 2019 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a limited-production Tuscan Sangiovese made entirely from Vigna Vecchia Mercatale, the estate’s oldest vineyard, planted in 1988. Its clay-rich, mineral soils produce a structured style, with red cherry, redcurrant and blackberry joined by rose, cedar, liquorice, dried herbs and savoury spice.
On the palate, it is concentrated and finely structured, with vibrant acidity, ripe red and dark fruit and firm, fine-grained tannins. A saline mineral character runs through the wine, while citrus, spice and balsamic notes add complexity to the long finish. The wine spends 35 days on skins before ageing for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks.

At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Brunello collectors who enjoy traditional Sangiovese with firm structure, mineral depth and serious ageing potential. The 2019 is built for the cellar, with published drinking windows extending to around 2040–2045. Pair with bistecca alla Fiorentina, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, wild mushroom dishes or aged pecorino.
