The 2018 Domaine Jean-François Ganevat Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes is a profound old-vine Chardonnay from the Côtes du Jura. Produced from vines planted around 1919 on limestone-rich marl, this exceptionally rare cuvée underwent an extended 84-month élevage on its lees in old demi-muids. The nose unfolds with lemon zest, crisp green apple and ripe orchard fruit, followed by fresh hazelnut, salted butter, dried flowers, gentle spice and flinty mineral notes.
On the palate, it combines remarkable density with crystalline acidity and precision. Concentrated citrus and orchard fruit are layered with chalk, toasted nuts and a deeply saline mineral character. Despite the warmth and generosity of the 2018 vintage, the wine remains energetic and vertical, finishing exceptionally long, savoury and mouth-watering.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a remarkable collector’s Chardonnay for those who appreciate profound, naturally made Jura whites with Burgundian refinement and intense mineral energy. Serve at approximately 12°C and allow 30–60 minutes in a decanter or large glass, as some youthful reduction may be present. Enjoy now or cellar for another decade under ideal conditions. Pair with roasted lobster, grilled turbot, trout gravlax, lemon risotto, roast poultry, morel mushrooms or aged Comté.
