The 2017 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a profound Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Hill of Corton in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, produced by the domaine perhaps most closely associated with this legendary appellation. Bonneau du Martray’s historic vineyard stretches continuously from the upper to the lower slopes of Charlemagne, crossing a complex mosaic of limestone, marl, clay and silt. The higher parcels near the forest contribute crystalline citrus, floral character and limestone minerality; the centre of the slope provides structure and texture; while the deeper, more clay-influenced soils lower down bring power and richness. The domaine blends these different components into a single Corton-Charlemagne, creating one of the most complete expressions of the Charlemagne hillside.
