The 2016 Relais de La Dominique is the second wine of Château La Dominique, one of Saint-Émilion’s most respected classified growths. Produced from vineyards bordering some of Bordeaux’s most famous estates, including Cheval Blanc and Figeac, it offers an accessible introduction to the château’s elegant style. The excellent 2016 vintage has given the wine impressive concentration and structure while maintaining the approachability and charm expected from a top Bordeaux second label.
The nose reveals black cherry, blackberry and ripe plum aromas alongside notes of liquorice, tobacco and subtle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with generous dark fruit supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity. Hints of cedar, earth and savoury herbs add complexity, while the finish is smooth, refined and distinctly Saint-Émilion in character.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A classic Right Bank Bordeaux that delivers exceptional value from a prestigious Saint-Émilion estate. Its balance of ripe fruit, savoury complexity and polished structure makes it an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses. Drinking beautifully now with a short decant, it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2032.
