The 2016 Château Croizet-Bages is a distinguished Fifth Growth (5ème Grand Cru Classé) from Pauillac, Bordeaux, made from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. The nose shows blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry with notes of tobacco, cedar, herbs and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with concentrated black fruit, fresh acidity and firm yet ripe tannins. Matured for 12 months in French oak, around 50% new, it develops savoury cedar, spice and earthy complexity while retaining classic Pauillac structure through a long finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Bordeaux drinkers who enjoy structured Cabernet-driven reds with dark fruit, savoury complexity and mature Pauillac character. The 2016 is drinking well now but can continue developing into the 2030s. Ideal with roast lamb, grilled steak, slow-braised beef, venison or mature hard cheeses.
