The 2009 Château Brane-Cantenac is a refined Second Growth from Margaux, produced from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. The warmth of this exceptional Bordeaux vintage gives the wine generous aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, complemented by violet, liquorice, cedar, tobacco, white pepper and subtle smoky oak.
On the palate, it is rich, smooth and velvety, combining ripe dark fruit with finely polished tannins and well-judged freshness. Notes of cigar box, spice, graphite and dried flowers emerge with aeration, leading to a persistent and harmonious finish. It displays the depth of the 2009 vintage while retaining the fragrance and elegance associated with Margaux.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent mature Bordeaux for those who appreciate the combination of Margaux elegance and generous vintage richness. It is drinking beautifully now but should continue developing through 2045. Stand the bottle upright before serving and decant for approximately two hours. Ideal with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, venison, mushroom dishes or mature cheeses.
