West Cape Howe Wines is one of Western Australia’s most respected wine producers, located in Mount Barker within the renowned Great Southern wine region. Established in 1997, the winery has built a strong reputation for producing wines that combine flavour, balance, structure, and exceptional value, drawing on some of the oldest vineyard resources in the state.
The estate's vineyards benefit from the cool maritime climate of the Great Southern, a region celebrated for its long growing season, reliable rainfall, and diverse terroirs. West Cape Howe farms vineyards in Mount Barker and Frankland River, including the historic Langton Vineyard, originally established in 1978 and home to some of the oldest vines in the region.
West Cape Howe is particularly known for its premium Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Sauvignon Blanc Semillon wines. The Rieslings are celebrated for their citrus purity and vibrant acidity, while the Chardonnays display stone fruit, citrus, subtle oak, and mineral complexity. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz offer concentrated dark fruit, spice, structure, and excellent aging potential.
The winery follows sustainable viticultural practices, incorporating organic principles, minimal herbicide use, solar energy, and water recycling systems to reduce environmental impact while maintaining fruit quality.
Today, under the leadership of senior winemaker Gavin Berry, West Cape Howe is widely regarded as one of the benchmark producers of the Great Southern, producing wines that showcase the elegance and purity of Western Australia's premier cool-climate region.
