Trentino-Alto Adige
Trentino–Alto Adige is one of Italy’s most distinctive wine regions, located in the far north of the country along the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains near the Austrian border. Known for its dramatic alpine landscapes and cool-climate conditions, the region produces some of Italy’s most elegant and aromatic white wines, alongside refined reds.
The region is divided into two distinct wine areas: Trentino in the south and Alto Adige (Südtirol) in the north. Alto Adige is particularly renowned for high-quality white wines such as Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay, while Trentino is known for varieties like Teroldego, Lagrein and Pinot Noir.
Thanks to the combination of high-altitude vineyards, alpine sunshine and cool night temperatures, wines from Trentino–Alto Adige typically show bright acidity, purity of fruit and strong mineral character. The region’s diverse soils and steep vineyards allow producers to craft wines that balance freshness, structure and aromatic complexity.
Today, Trentino–Alto Adige is widely regarded as one of Italy’s leading regions for premium cool-climate wines, offering a unique blend of Italian tradition and Alpine precision.
