The 2023 TWR Toru SV 5182 is one of Marlborough’s most distinctive white wines, crafted by Anna and Jason Flowerday at Te Whare Ra from organically grown fruit. Toru, meaning “three” in Māori, is a co-fermented field blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris, combining the aromatic spice of Gewürztraminer, the structure of Riesling and the texture of Pinot Gris into a uniquely balanced wine.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a beautifully layered texture. Aromas of mango, citrus blossom, lychee and white florals lead into flavours of pear, red apple, mandarin and lemon oil, supported by subtle spice and a gentle mineral edge. The co-fermentation creates impressive harmony between the varieties, while a touch of natural richness adds depth without compromising freshness. The finish is long, textured and finely balanced, with lingering citrus, spice and floral notes.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is a fantastic choice for customers looking for something a little different from traditional Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris. Its combination of aromatic complexity, texture and freshness makes it exceptionally versatile with food. Pair it with Thai curries, pork belly, grilled prawns, roast chicken or soft cheeses. Drinking beautifully now, it will continue to evolve and gain further complexity over the next 4–7 years.
