The same Blanc de Blancs that built Ruinart's reputation as the oldest Champagne house, founded in Reims in 1729, now in a 1.5-litre magnum, generous enough for a table and slow enough in its ageing to reward the wait. It's made entirely from Chardonnay, drawn from roughly thirty crus across the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, Sézannais and Vallée de la Vesle.
In the glass it's pale gold with faint green and jade reflections, carried by a fine, steady stream of bubbles. The first aromas lean toward ripe lemon, juicy pear and just-picked peach, followed by a floral layer of white blossom, ginger and pink peppercorn. On the palate the wine holds a rare balance of tension and roundness, with ripe citrus and tropical fruit running through to a long, delicate finish.
