The NV Champagne Vouette & Sorbée Blanc d’Argile Blanc de Blancs (Base 2020, Disgorged January 2024) Magnum is a benchmark biodynamic grower Champagne from Bertrand Gautherot, one of the pioneers of natural viticulture in Champagne. Made from 100% Chardonnay grown on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils in the Côte des Bar, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels, bottled with minimal intervention and produced without dosage. The magnum format adds further complexity, freshness and ageing potential to an already exceptional Champagne.
The nose reveals lemon curd, green apple and white peach layered with hazelnut, brioche, wild flowers and chalky minerality. The palate is powerful yet beautifully precise, with a creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity and intense mineral drive. Layers of citrus, orchard fruit and subtle savoury notes unfold through a long, saline and energetic finish that is both complex and remarkably pure.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A world-class grower Champagne that beautifully combines richness, texture and mineral precision. Perfect with oysters, lobster, scallops, sashimi or aged Comté. The magnum format makes this an outstanding choice for special occasions and long-term cellaring. Enjoy now with a short decant or cellar confidently for 10–15+ years.
