The 2024 Roc Breïa Bourgogne Rouge is a beautifully vibrant and finely detailed Pinot Noir from the exciting Mâconnais project of Théo Dancer, son of the renowned Vincent Dancer. Produced from organically farmed vineyards in Bray — one of the coolest and latest-ripening sectors of the Mâconnais — the wine reflects a meticulous low-intervention philosophy focused on purity, freshness and terroir transparency. The Pinot Noir vines, planted between 1970 and 1985 on marl and red limestone soils at around 350 metres altitude, are farmed with an increasingly biodynamic approach as Dancer works to restore vitality to vineyards previously farmed conventionally.
The nose reveals wild strawberry, raspberry and red cherry layered alongside violet, crushed herbs and subtle spice, giving the wine remarkable aromatic lift and energy. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with silky tannins, vibrant natural acidity and a finely etched mineral core. Vinified with around 50% whole bunches and matured in older 500L barrels with no new oak, the wine balances juicy red fruit with savoury complexity and chalky freshness, finishing long, poised and beautifully persistent with excellent finesse and transparency. Critics and importers have noted the wine’s floral perfume, fine tannic structure and “terrific length,” while its low-intervention élevage — with no yeast additions, minimal sulphur and no filtration — preserves the wine’s youthful vibrancy and purity.
