The 2020 Domaine Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Edmond is a beautifully layered and intensely terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s benchmark biodynamic estates. Produced from old vines in the celebrated La Moussière vineyard on steep clay-limestone and Kimmeridgian marl soils, the wine is named after Edmond Mellot and represents one of the domaine’s most complete and cellar-worthy cuvées. The nose reveals preserved lemon, grapefruit and ripe white peach layered alongside crushed flint, white flowers and subtle smoky mineral notes, giving the wine remarkable complexity and precision.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with vibrant natural acidity, concentrated texture and a tightly wound mineral core. Layers of citrus oil, orchard fruit and savoury lees complexity are balanced by saline freshness and deep chalky tension, finishing long, poised and beautifully persistent with outstanding structure and ageing potential. Careful barrel fermentation and extended lees ageing add subtle richness and depth while preserving the wine’s crystalline purity and vineyard transparency.
