The 2018 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill is the house’s flagship prestige cuvée, produced only in exceptional vintages and sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards. Built predominantly on Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, it reflects Churchill’s preferred style - full-bodied, structured and capable of ageing gracefully.
The nose is complex and layered, showing ripe pear, peach and candied citrus, alongside dried fruit, spice and subtle nutty notes. With aeration, further nuances of hazelnut, brioche and exotic fruit emerge, reflecting extended lees ageing and maturity.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and vinous with a broad, textural mid-palate. Ripe fruit, spice and mineral notes are supported by vibrant acidity, creating a balance between richness and precision. The finish is long, layered and persistent, with both power and finesse - a hallmark of this cuvée.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the great "Prestige Champagne" icons - sitting alongside Krug, Cristal and Dom Pérignon. Compared to those, Churchill is often more structured, more Pinot-driven and slightly more "old-school" in style. The 2018 vintage is particularly interesting: more elegant and refined than some previous releases, while still delivering depth and ageing potential. This is a serious collector’s Champagne, not just for celebration but for cellaring. Drink now with extended aeration or cellar for 20+ years. Perfect with lobster, truffle dishes, caviar or fine dining occasions.
