The 2023 Joseph Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Les Saint-Georges is a profound 100% Pinot Noir from arguably the most important Premier Cru vineyard in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Les Saint-Georges lies on the southern side of the village on a well-exposed south-east-facing slope, with complex soils combining clay, marl and limestone debris. The climat is so historically important that the commune itself adopted the name Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1892, replacing its former name of Nuits. For generations, Les Saint-Georges has been regarded as one of the strongest candidates for potential promotion to Grand Cru status, and its finest wines combine the muscular structure traditionally associated with southern Nuits-Saint-Georges with considerably greater refinement and longevity. Domaine Faiveley, founded in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825 and today run by seventh-generation Erwan and Ève Faiveley, has particularly deep historical connections to the appellation.

The 2023 is a deep ruby-coloured, powerful yet remarkably polished expression of the vineyard. Ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with violet, warm spice, subtle toast, earth and mineral notes. The palate has impressive concentration and energy, but what distinguishes the wine is the quality of its tannins: fine, silky and beautifully integrated rather than aggressively rustic, carrying the dark fruit into a long, structured finish. Faiveley's careful extraction and oak maturation preserve the inherent power of Les Saint-Georges while giving the wine an unusually elegant profile. At approximately 13.5% alcohol, it combines the generosity of the 2023 vintage with enough freshness and structure for serious ageing. Current guidance suggests that the wine should comfortably develop through approximately 2043.
