GEELONG
The Geelong wine region is one of Victoria’s oldest and most respected cool-climate wine areas, located southwest of Melbourne along the shores of Port Phillip Bay. Influenced by strong maritime breezes and a long, moderate growing season, Geelong produces wines known for their balance, elegance and complexity.
The region is particularly renowned for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in the cool coastal climate. These wines often display bright acidity, refined structure and layered flavours of citrus, stone fruit and red berries. In addition to Burgundian varieties, Shiraz and Pinot Gris also perform well, offering savoury complexity and depth.
Geelong is divided into several subregions, including the Bellarine Peninsula, Moorabool Valley and Surf Coast, each contributing slightly different expressions of terroir due to variations in soil and maritime influence.
Leading producers such as By Farr, Bannockburn Vineyards and Curlewis Winery have helped establish Geelong as one of Australia’s premier cool-climate wine regions, producing wines that combine precision, structure and strong regional character.
