PROSPER MAUFOUX

Prosper Maufoux is a Burgundy house founded in Santenay in 1860. The Piffaut family bought the maison in 2010, acquired the Château de Saint-Aubin in 2015 and moved the house there in 2019. Winemaker Mathieu Joblot has led the cellar since 2016.

The estate's nine hectares around Saint-Aubin are planted mainly to Chardonnay, running from village Saint-Aubin and the Clos du Château up through Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault Premier Cru to Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru. Alongside the domaine wines, the house buys fruit across the Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais for its négociant range, including the Bourgogne Chardonnay and Bourgogne Pinot Noir.

Winemaking is non-interventionist: slow, gentle extractions and long ageing in lightly toasted, fine-grained French oak. The whites lean on citrus, white peach and chalky minerality; the reds on red cherry, raspberry and silky tannin.
