The 2024 MDI Sangiovese is sourced from Denis Pasut’s established vineyard in Mildura, where limestone-influenced soils and a long, cool growing season produced fruit of excellent flavour and balance. Made by Kevin McCarthy, the wine was fermented in tank and matured for 16 months in seasoned oak barrels, resulting in a vibrant and expressive take on this classic Italian variety.
The nose shows dark cherry, plum and wild berries with hints of spice and dried herbs. Medium-bodied and finely structured, the palate combines juicy red and dark fruit with savoury notes, bright acidity and ripe tannins, finishing fresh and persistent. Elegant rather than powerful, it captures the food-friendly character that makes Sangiovese such a versatile variety.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A delicious, modern Australian Sangiovese that delivers plenty of character at a very approachable price. Bright, savoury and effortlessly drinkable, it pairs beautifully with pizza, pasta ragù, grilled lamb, charcuterie and tomato-based dishes. Enjoy now and over the next 4–6 years while its freshness and vibrancy are at their best.
