LITTORAI
Littorai is one of California’s most respected producers of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, renowned for its terroir-driven wines from the Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. Founded in 1993 by winemaker Ted Lemon, Littorai has built an international reputation for crafting elegant wines that reflect the character of individual vineyard sites.
Ted Lemon’s winemaking philosophy was shaped by his early career in Burgundy, where he became the first American winemaker hired by the historic Domaine Roulot in Meursault. Inspired by Burgundian traditions, he brought a strong focus on site expression, minimal intervention and balanced winemaking back to California.
Littorai is also a pioneer of biodynamic and regenerative farming in California. Many of the estate vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with an emphasis on soil health, biodiversity and sustainable vineyard ecosystems. This approach helps produce grapes with natural balance and complexity, allowing the wines to clearly express their origin.
The winery sources fruit from a collection of exceptional coastal vineyard sites including Cerise Vineyard, Savoy Vineyard, Wendling Vineyard, Hirsch Vineyard and Thieriot Vineyard. Each site contributes a distinctive expression of Pinot Noir or Chardonnay shaped by cool maritime climates, rugged terrain and diverse soils.
Today, Littorai is widely regarded as a benchmark producer of single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in California, with wines known for their precision, aromatic complexity and remarkable ability to age. The winery continues to stand at the forefront of California’s movement toward terroir-focused, sustainable winemaking.
