The 2020 Kooyong Faultline Single Block Chardonnay is a refined and highly expressive cool-climate Chardonnay from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Sourced from a tiny 0.5-hectare block of mature vines within Kooyong’s Faultline Vineyard, the site is distinguished by deeper clay soils that contribute greater richness and depth. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed directly into French oak barriques, with 20% new oak, fermented naturally with wild yeasts and matured on lees for 11 months without bâtonnage. The wine opens with aromas of lemon zest, green apple and stone fruit, layered with cashew, subtle struck-match complexity and fine mineral notes.
On the palate, it is concentrated yet beautifully precise, with ripe peach, green apple and citrus supported by bright, focused acidity. A creamy, nutty texture adds depth while the oak remains finely integrated, allowing the fruit and distinctive mineral character to remain at the forefront. The finish is long, tightly structured and saline, combining impressive richness with the freshness and tension characteristic of serious Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay.
