INVINITI
Inviniti is a sustainability-focused New Zealand wine label created by Lawson's Dry Hills, the long-established Marlborough producer founded in 1982. The range was developed to combine the Lawson family's experience with Marlborough fruit with a particularly strong commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of wine production, packaging and distribution.
Based in Marlborough at the northern end of New Zealand's South Island, Lawson's Dry Hills owns vineyards across the Wairau Valley, Awatere Valley and Southern Valleys, supplemented by fruit from selected long-term growers. Inviniti sits within this broader vineyard network, allowing the wines to draw on different parts of Marlborough according to the requirements of each variety.
The Inviniti range currently focuses on three varieties particularly well suited to Marlborough: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Rather than producing a large collection, the label concentrates on fresh, varietally expressive wines intended to communicate both Marlborough fruit character and the environmental philosophy behind the brand.
Inviniti Sauvignon Blanc draws fruit from several vineyard sites across Marlborough. After gentle pressing, individual components are cool-fermented in stainless steel to retain their aromatic intensity before blending and bottling. The resulting style is classically Marlborough, showing passionfruit, citrus and fresh herbal characters, with a crisp, dry and fruit-driven palate.
Inviniti Pinot Gris is sourced from the Wairau Valley, where the fruit is also gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel. The emphasis here is on preserving ripe orchard and stone-fruit aromatics while maintaining freshness, producing an approachable and versatile expression of Marlborough Pinot Gris.
The Pinot Noir comes from Wairau Valley vineyards and offers the red-wine counterpart to the collection. The style is deliberately supple and immediately appealing, built around fragrant red berries, spice and a medium-bodied palate rather than heavy extraction.
What most clearly distinguishes Inviniti, however, is its emphasis on sustainability throughout the entire production chain. Lawson's Dry Hills is certified through Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, while the winery has also achieved Toitū net carbon-zero certification and B Corp certification. The company achieved its net carbon-zero status in 2021 after previously attaining ISO 14001 environmental-management certification.
This philosophy extends directly to Inviniti's packaging. Its lightweight bottles are manufactured in New Zealand using a minimum of 70% recycled glass, while the labels use paper sourced from certified sustainably managed forests. Reducing bottle weight is particularly meaningful for wine because glass production and freight can represent substantial components of a bottle's overall environmental footprint.
Sustainability also extends into everyday vineyard and winery practices. Lawson's Dry Hills highlights initiatives including solar power, composting, recycling, native plantings in vineyards and investment in more environmentally efficient machinery. Inviniti was specifically created to showcase this broader environmental programme in an accessible range of Marlborough wines.
All wines in the Inviniti collection are also vegan-friendly, adding another dimension to the label's consciously designed approach. The objective is not simply to produce wines carrying an environmental message, but to make recognisable, enjoyable Marlborough expressions while progressively reducing the resources required to produce and transport them.
Inviniti therefore offers an interesting contemporary interpretation of Marlborough wine. Sauvignon Blanc provides the region's signature passionfruit, citrus and herbal freshness, while Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir demonstrate the versatility of the Wairau Valley. Behind all three sits one of the more comprehensive sustainability programmes among established New Zealand wineries.
