HUON VALLEY

The Huon Valley is one of Tasmania’s most exciting emerging wine regions, located south of Hobart and influenced by the cool waters of the Southern Ocean. Known historically for apple orchards and pristine wilderness, the region has gained increasing attention for producing some of Tasmania’s most refined cool-climate wines.

Thanks to its long growing season, cool temperatures and maritime influence, Huon Valley is particularly well suited to varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The region’s wines are typically defined by vibrant natural acidity, delicate aromatics and strong purity of fruit.

Pinot Noir from Huon Valley often shows red cherry, wild strawberry and floral notes, with fine tannins and elegant structure, while Chardonnay tends to display citrus, white peach and mineral freshness. These qualities have attracted a number of respected producers who are exploring the region’s diverse vineyard sites and unique microclimates.

With its combination of cool climate, dramatic landscapes and small-scale artisanal wineries, Huon Valley is quickly establishing itself as one of Tasmania’s most promising sources of elegant, terroir-driven wines.
