The 2020 Hartford Court Sevens Bench Vineyard Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Carneros Chardonnay from Hartford Court, sourced from low-yielding vines planted on Haire Clay Loam soils along the Sonoma–Napa border. Barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 15 months in 100% French oak (18% new), it reflects the cool Carneros climate with purity and elegance. The nose is vibrant with aromas of Meyer lemon, lemon drop and lemongrass, layered with hints of flint, citrus blossom and subtle oak spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a creamy, generous texture balanced by lively acidity and pronounced mineral tension. Flavours of candied lemon, apricot and tangerine are complemented by notes of hazelnut, wet stone and delicate barrel complexity, leading to a long, refined finish. The combination of concentrated citrus fruit, restrained oak and saline freshness gives this Chardonnay both immediate appeal and excellent cellaring potential.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for lovers of premium Californian Chardonnay that combines richness with freshness and minerality. Pair it with grilled lobster, roast chicken, seared scallops or creamy seafood pasta. Enjoy now after a short decant, or cellar for 6–10 years to reveal greater complexity, texture and savoury depth.
