The 2021 Gentle Folk Ashton Chardonnay is a beautifully expressive single-vineyard Chardonnay from Ashton in the Adelaide Hills. Fruit comes from Ric’s Vineyard, a north-facing site planted in 1996 at approximately 500 metres elevation to the I10V1 Chardonnay clone. Light loamy clay over sandstone, with extensive schist and quartz rubble, gives the wine both generosity and mineral definition. The exceptionally cool, slow-ripening 2021 season produced a Chardonnay of impressive freshness and poise, combining ripe stone fruit with spice, citrus and subtle savoury complexity.
