E.J. McDougall is a premium Australian wine label founded by acclaimed winemaker and oenologist Edward (Eddie) James McDougall, whose international career has spanned more than two decades across Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, and Asia. Best known to many wine lovers as The Flying Winemaker, McDougall established the label to showcase the diversity and quality of Australia's finest vineyards through a modern négociant-éleveur approach.

Rather than being tied to a single vineyard or estate, E.J. McDougall partners with exceptional growers across Australia's leading wine regions, sourcing fruit from carefully selected vineyard sites in Margaret River and McLaren Vale. Many of these vineyards feature mature vines, with some dating back to 1939, allowing the winery to produce small-volume wines that faithfully express the character of each site while maintaining a distinctive house style.

The collection focuses on classic Australian varieties including Chardonnay, Grenache, and Old Vine Shiraz. The Margaret River Chardonnay displays citrus, grapefruit, white peach, flint, and subtle French oak with impressive precision and mineral freshness. The McLaren Vale Grenache, sourced from old vines, offers lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, and spice, while the Old Vine Shiraz delivers blackberry, plum, liquorice, sage, and finely structured tannins with remarkable elegance and balance.

Eddie McDougall's philosophy reflects his experience working alongside leading producers around the world. Fruit is harvested from premium vineyard parcels, fermented with minimal intervention, and matured using carefully selected vessels—including seasoned French oak and large-format foudres—allowing vineyard character to remain at the forefront. The result is a collection of wines that combine modern Australian purity with an unmistakable sense of place.

Originally launched in 2010 following the evolution of McDougall's earlier Umami Wines project, the E.J. McDougall label was relaunched in 2025 with a renewed focus on fine Australian wine. Today the brand represents McDougall's vision of creating world-class wines that celebrate Australia's greatest vineyard sites while elevating the country's reputation on the international stage.
