Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most prestigious wine producers and a benchmark winery of the renowned Wachau region. Located in the historic village of Dürnstein along the Danube River, the estate represents hundreds of small vineyard owners who cultivate some of the Wachau’s most celebrated terraced vineyard sites.
Under the leadership of Master of Wine Roman Horvath and acclaimed winemaker Heinz Frischengruber, Domäne Wachau has earned international recognition for producing wines that combine precision, purity, and exceptional terroir expression. The winery is widely regarded as one of Austria’s leading ambassadors for Riesling and Grüner Veltliner.
The vineyards are planted on the Wachau’s dramatic stone terraces, with soils of gneiss, granite, and primary rock contributing distinctive mineral character to the wines. The region’s unique combination of warm Pannonian influences and cool alpine air creates ideal conditions for producing wines with remarkable freshness, concentration, and ageing potential.
Domäne Wachau is particularly renowned for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Grüner Veltliner wines display aromas of green apple, citrus, white pepper, stone fruit, and mineral notes, while Riesling offers lime, white peach, apricot, floral aromatics, and vibrant acidity. The wines are crafted across the Wachau’s traditional quality classifications, including Federspiel and Smaragd, showcasing a range of styles from elegant and fresh to powerful and age-worthy.
