DOMAINE J.A. FERRET
Domaine J.A. Ferret is one of the historic benchmark producers of Pouilly-Fuissé in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region. Located in the village of Fuissé, the estate dates back to 1840 and has played an important role in shaping the reputation of Chardonnay from southern Burgundy.
The domaine gained particular recognition under Jeanne Ferret, a pioneering winemaker who began estate bottling in 1942, long before it became common practice in the region. Her detailed classification of vineyard parcels also helped highlight the distinct terroirs of Pouilly-Fuissé, laying the groundwork for today’s vineyard hierarchy.
Today the estate farms approximately 18 hectares of vineyards across multiple sites in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, including prized limestone slopes surrounding Fuissé and near the Roche de Vergisson. The vineyards feature diverse clay-limestone and marl soils that contribute to the complexity and mineral character of the wines.
In 2008, the renowned Burgundy house Maison Louis Jadot acquired Domaine Ferret, continuing the estate’s tradition of terroir-focused winemaking while further elevating quality and global recognition.
Domaine J.A. Ferret is best known for producing refined, single-vineyard Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay, including highly regarded cuvées such as Clos des Prouges and Les Ménétrières. These wines are celebrated for their balance of richness, precision, and limestone-driven minerality, making the domaine one of the reference points for top Chardonnay from the Mâconnais.
