DOMAINE DES COMTES LAFON
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is one of the most illustrious and revered estates in Burgundy, based in the heart of Meursault in the Côte de Beaune. Renowned for producing some of the most profound and age-worthy white wines in the world, the domaine is equally admired for its exceptional reds from Volnay and Monthélie, showcasing a rare mastery of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The estate traces its origins back to the 19th century, and since the 1980s it has been under the direction of Dominique Lafon, who transformed it into a benchmark for quality and innovation in Burgundy. His vision combined traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with a deep commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The entire domaine has been certified biodynamic since 1998, with an unwavering focus on soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention winemaking.
Domaine des Comtes Lafon owns approximately 16 hectares of vineyards, including prestigious holdings in Meursault, Volnay, and Monthélie, as well as coveted parcels in Montrachet and Meursault Perrières, considered among the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or. The white wines, primarily from Meursault’s top Premier Cru vineyards, are celebrated for their depth, richness, and tension, combining opulent fruit with striking mineral precision. The reds, particularly from Volnay Santenots, are known for their finesse, purity, and remarkable aging potential.
In the cellar, Dominique Lafon practices careful, low-intervention winemaking — using natural yeasts, extended lees aging, and restrained use of new oak — to achieve balance and expressiveness. The result is wines of extraordinary complexity, texture, and harmony that eloquently reflect their origins.
Today, Domaine des Comtes Lafon stands as a symbol of Burgundy excellence, revered by collectors and sommeliers worldwide. Its wines capture the soul of Meursault — combining generosity and refinement — and remain a benchmark for what Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can achieve in Burgundy’s finest terroirs.
