DOMAINE COMTE ABBATUCCI

Domaine Comte Abbatucci is one of the most historic and distinctive wine estates in Corsica, located in the heart of the Taravo Valley in southern Corsica. The estate, run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci and his daughter Faustine, sits on granitic slopes between 100 and 150 metres above sea level, surrounded by the wild Mediterranean landscape known as the maquis. The vineyard covers about 21 hectares and is part of a larger farm dedicated to traditional Corsican agriculture. With a family history dating back to the 18th century, the domaine is both a symbol of Corsican heritage and a leader in the island’s modern wine revival.

A defining feature of Domaine Comte Abbatucci is its deep commitment to preserving indigenous Corsican grape varieties. The estate maintains a unique ampelographic collection of rare and ancient cultivars, including Sciaccarello, Nielluccio, Vermentino, Carcajolo Nero, Montanaccia, and Barbarossa. Jean-Charles Abbatucci has played a major role in rescuing these native grapes from extinction, ensuring that Corsican viticulture retains its authentic identity. The vineyards, planted on sandy granite soils, are cultivated organically and biodynamically — with sheep grazing among the vines, horses ploughing the rows, and lunar cycles guiding vineyard work. This holistic approach reinforces soil vitality and reflects the domaine’s belief that healthy ecosystems create wines of purity and truth.
