DIRTY THREE

Dirty Three Wines is a boutique winery based in Inverloch, South Gippsland, where winemaker Marcus Satchell and his partner Lisa Sartori focus on producing expressive, cool-climate wines shaped by the region’s unique coastal influence. The name “Dirty Three” refers to their three distinct vineyard sites — each with its own soil profile or “dirt” — and the philosophy that great wine begins with understanding and showcasing the character of each place. Located between the Bass Coast and the hills of Gippsland, the vineyards benefit from cooling ocean breezes, long ripening seasons, and a mix of volcanic, loam and clay-based soils that naturally produce grapes with high aromatic intensity, freshness, and finesse.

The winery is best known for its small-batch, site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which highlight the subtle differences between the three vineyard soils. Their All the Dirts Pinot Noir combines fruit from all sites to present a complete expression of South Gippsland Pinot — silky, vibrant and delicately spiced — while the single-site wines drill deeper into structure, minerality and texture. Dirty Three also produces expressive whites, including a bright, saline Chardonnay and the increasingly acclaimed Dirty Rizza Riesling, an off-dry, flinty, lemon-driven style that has gained attention for its purity and balance. Winemaking is deliberately gentle and minimal, favouring spontaneous fermentation, careful extraction, subtle oak and a focus on preserving natural acidity and vineyard identity.
