The 2016 Château Saint-Georges is a mature Right Bank Bordeaux from the small Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion appellation. Composed of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and plum, joined by red cherry, rose, peony, cedar and sweet spice.
The palate is rich and fleshy, with generous dark fruit, graphite minerality and subtle notes of tobacco, toast and integrated oak. Rounded yet firmly woven tannins provide structure, while the excellent 2016 vintage contributes freshness and balance to the long, savoury finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent-value mature Bordeaux for drinkers who enjoy the generous fruit of Merlot with classic Saint-Émilion structure. It is drinking beautifully now and should continue developing over the next five to eight years. Decant for approximately one hour and pair with roast lamb, beef, duck, braised short ribs, mushroom dishes or mature cheeses.
