The 2018 vintage was warm and generous, producing a wine with richness and concentration while still retaining freshness and structure. As always with Musar, the wine was aged extensively before release, allowing additional complexity and integration to develop prior to bottling.
The nose is intensely aromatic and evolving, showing black cherry, plum and blackberry layered with dried herbs, leather, cedar, tobacco and exotic spice. There are also characteristic Musar notes of earth, balsamic, game and volatile lift, giving the wine its unmistakable personality and complexity.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a textured, slightly wild and savoury profile. Dark fruit, spice and earthy notes are supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity, leading to a long, mature-feeling and highly distinctive finish. The wine combines richness with freshness and continues to evolve beautifully with air in the glass.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, Château Musar is one of the most unique and conversation-worthy wines we offer. It doesn’t taste like Bordeaux, Rhône or traditional New World reds — it has its own unmistakable identity. Compared to classic Bordeaux blends, Musar is more savoury, earthy and evolved in style, often showing mature characteristics even when young. It’s ideal for adventurous wine drinkers, collectors or customers looking for something truly different. Best enjoyed with extended decanting. Drink now or cellar for another 15–20+ years. Perfect with lamb, Middle Eastern cuisine, game or slow-cooked dishes.
