CHATEAU L'EVANGILE

Château L’Évangile is one of the most esteemed estates in Pomerol, Bordeaux, known for crafting wines of profound elegance, richness, and silky texture. Situated on the Plateau de Pomerol, the château lies between two legendary neighbors — Château Pétrus to the north and Château Cheval Blanc (in Saint-Émilion) to the south — a testament to its exceptional terroir.

The estate’s origins date back to the 18th century, originally known as Fazilleau. It was renamed Château L’Évangile in the early 1800s by the Léglise family, founders of several great Pomerol properties. Since 1990, the château has been owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), bringing the precision and expertise of the Lafite team to this Right Bank gem.

The 22-hectare vineyard is planted predominantly with Merlot (around 80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%), rooted in deep gravel and clay soils that provide both power and finesse. This blend gives the wines their trademark character — plush, velvety Merlot fruit supported by the aromatic lift and structure of Cabernet Franc.

Under the direction of the Rothschild team and winemaker Juliette Couderc, L’Évangile has pursued an increasingly terroir-driven philosophy, embracing organic and biodynamic farming and reducing new oak influence to highlight purity and balance.

In great vintages, Château L’Évangile stands among Bordeaux’s most captivating wines — voluptuous yet refined, powerful yet graceful — embodying the essence of Pomerol at its most seductive.
