CHATEAU LA FLEUR PETRUS

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most prestigious estates in Pomerol, producing refined and highly sought-after Bordeaux from an exceptional position on the appellation's celebrated plateau. Managed by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, the estate combines outstanding terroir with meticulous viticulture and precise winemaking, creating wines renowned for their elegance, aromatic complexity and impressive ageing potential.

The property takes its name from its location between two historic Pomerol estates, Château Lafleur and Pétrus. Acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950, La Fleur-Pétrus has subsequently expanded through the acquisition of carefully selected neighbouring vineyard parcels. These additions have contributed greater diversity of soils and exposures while maintaining the exceptional quality associated with the estate.

The vineyards are characterised by a complex mixture of gravel and clay soils, with variations across individual parcels contributing different dimensions to the finished wine. Gravel promotes drainage, finesse and aromatic expression, while clay provides richness, structure and moisture retention. This combination helps create the balance between generosity and refinement that defines La Fleur-Pétrus.

Merlot forms the foundation of Château La Fleur-Pétrus, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a smaller proportion of Petit Verdot. Merlot contributes plush dark fruit and supple texture, Cabernet Franc adds floral perfume, freshness and spice, while Petit Verdot can provide additional colour, structure and aromatic complexity.

The wine typically reveals layers of black cherry, plum, blackberry and raspberry, accompanied by violet, rose, graphite, cocoa, truffle and subtle spice. The palate is distinguished by polished tannins, silky texture and excellent freshness. Although capable of considerable concentration, La Fleur-Pétrus is particularly admired for its precision, perfume and graceful expression of Pomerol.

Viticulture and winemaking are overseen with the meticulous standards associated with the Moueix family. Individual parcels are harvested according to optimal maturity and vinified separately before blending. Maturation in French oak adds complexity and structure while preserving the purity of the fruit and the distinctive character of the vineyard.

The finest vintages of Château La Fleur-Pétrus possess significant cellaring potential, gradually developing tertiary aromas of truffle, tobacco, dried flowers and forest floor. Its exceptional location, limited production and association with Jean-Pierre Moueix have made La Fleur-Pétrus a highly desirable wine among collectors of fine Right Bank Bordeaux.
