CHATEAU DES QUARTS

Château des Quarts is a prestigious wine estate located in Chaintré, in the southernmost part of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation within Burgundy’s Mâconnais region. Founded in 2012 as a partnership between renowned winemakers Olivier Merlin and Dominique Lafon, the estate represents a revival of one of the area’s most historic vineyards. Their shared vision was to craft exceptional white Burgundy that captures the pure expression of southern Mâconnais terroir.

At the heart of the property lies the Clos des Quarts, a walled monopole vineyard covering about 2.2 hectares, with some vines dating back to around 1917. The high stone walls surrounding the vineyard create a unique microclimate, preserving both warmth and protection, and the old vine age contributes to remarkable depth and complexity in the wines. This rare, enclosed parcel stands as one of the region’s jewels, combining historical significance with meticulous modern viticulture.

Château des Quarts specializes in producing high-end Pouilly-Fuissé wines from Chardonnay, notably the Clos des Quarts Monopole (Premier Cru)—a wine admired for its precision, minerality, and layers of orchard fruit, citrus, and subtle oak. Another notable cuvée, L’Orangerie, reflects a distinct personality within the estate, adding further nuance to its range. Together, these wines embody a seamless balance of richness and elegance, showcasing the potential of Mâconnais Chardonnay at its finest.

Through their collaboration, Merlin and Lafon have helped re-establish Château des Quarts as a benchmark for quality in southern Burgundy. Their attention to detail, respect for tradition, and commitment to expressing the land have positioned the estate among the most respected names in Pouilly-Fuissé today.
