Château de Fesles is one of the Loire Valley's oldest and most distinguished wine estates, with a history dating back more than 600 years. Located in the heart of the Anjou region near the village of Thouarcé, the château has long been recognised as one of the benchmark producers of Chenin Blanc, particularly the legendary sweet wines of Bonnezeaux, while also crafting elegant dry whites and refined red wines that express the richness of the Loire Valley.
The estate's vineyards are situated on the rolling hills of Anjou, where schist, sandstone, and quartz-rich soils combine with a temperate climate influenced by the Loire River. Warm autumn days and cool mornings create ideal conditions for the slow ripening of Chenin Blanc, encouraging the development of botrytis (noble rot) in suitable vintages and allowing the production of wines with extraordinary concentration, freshness, and longevity.
Château de Fesles is best known for its Bonnezeaux, one of the Loire Valley's most prestigious sweet wine appellations. Produced from carefully selected Chenin Blanc grapes affected by noble rot, these wines display complex aromas of apricot, quince, honey, citrus marmalade, acacia blossom, and toasted almonds, balanced by vibrant acidity and remarkable mineral precision. The estate also produces exceptional dry Chenin Blanc with notes of lemon, pear, white flowers, wet stone, and saline freshness, alongside elegant Cabernet Franc with flavours of red berries, blackcurrant, herbs, and fine spice.
The winery follows a philosophy centred on sustainable viticulture, meticulous vineyard management, and minimal intervention. Careful hand harvesting, selective picking for botrytised fruit, gentle pressing, and patient maturation preserve both varietal purity and the unique identity of each vineyard parcel.
