CHATEAU CLOS DU MARQUIS

Clos du Marquis is a prestigious Saint-Julien wine produced from exceptional vineyards in Bordeaux's Médoc. Created in 1902 by the Delon family of Château Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis has developed a distinguished identity of its own. Cabernet Sauvignon generally forms the backbone of Clos du Marquis, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The resulting wine combines the structure and cassis character of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot's richness and Cabernet Franc's aromatic finesse. Typical expressions reveal blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry alongside cedar, graphite, tobacco, violet and savoury spice.

Clos du Marquis is known for combining concentration with the polished structure characteristic of fine Saint-Julien. Firm yet refined tannins provide excellent ageing potential, while vibrant acidity maintains freshness and balance. With bottle development, the wine can gain additional notes of leather, forest floor, cigar box and earthy complexity.

The wine is produced by the Delon family, whose holdings also include Château Léoville Las Cases and Château Potensac. Rigorous vineyard management, selective harvesting and precise parcel-by-parcel vinification are followed by maturation in French oak. This meticulous approach has helped establish Clos du Marquis as a serious fine wine in its own right rather than merely an alternative bottling from a classified-growth château.
