The 2018 Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Vignolo is a superb traditional Barolo Riserva from one of Castiglione Falletto’s most respected estates. Made from organically farmed Nebbiolo and aged for around five years in large Slavonian oak casks, it combines depth, structure and remarkable elegance. The Vignolo cru is known for producing Barolo with both power and perfume, and the 2018 vintage delivers exceptional balance and ageing potential.
The nose reveals dried rose, truffle, wild raspberry, leather and spice, while the palate is layered with red berries, plum, orange peel, mint and earthy mineral notes. Fine but firm tannins and vibrant acidity provide structure, leading to a long, savoury finish. Critics awarded up to 97 points, praising its concentration, freshness and complexity.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A serious, age-worthy Barolo with beautiful depth, finesse and classic Nebbiolo character. Perfect with braised beef, truffle pasta, venison, osso buco or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Decant if drinking now, or cellar confidently through 2045+ as it develops greater complexity and savoury nuance.
