The 2022 Brash Higgins MRLO Merlot is a distinctive, amphora-aged Merlot sourced from the Lennon Vineyard in McLaren Vale, where vines planted in 1994 grow on rich black cracking clay soils. Benefiting from the long and balanced 2022 growing season, the fruit was wild fermented in a combination of locally made clay amphorae and small open fermenters before returning to amphora for seven months of maturation. A 15% addition of Nero d'Avola brings vibrant acidity, fine tannins and an exotic lift, resulting in a wine that is both expressive and remarkably textural. The nose is deep and inviting, revealing dark cherry, spiced plum and black tea layered with earthy clay, oyster shell, orange peel, black jellybean and dried violet, creating a beautifully complex and savoury bouquet.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a silky, supple texture balanced by bright natural acidity and fine-grained tannins.
