The 2024 Wittmann Aulerde Riesling Grosses Gewächs is a dry, single-vineyard Riesling from Westhofen in Rheinhessen. Produced from nearly 70-year-old vines in Wittmann’s warmest site, it shows Mirabelle plum, white peach and citrus with white florals, liquorice and subtle spice. The heavy clay-marl, loess and limestone soils contribute to its distinctive structure.
On the palate, it is dry and concentrated with bright acidity, ripe yellow fruit and a firm mineral backbone. Lemon, peach and plum flavours are carried by a smooth yet tightly structured texture, leading to a long, focused finish that balances the warmer character of Aulerde with impressive freshness.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Riesling drinkers who enjoy serious, dry German whites with depth, mineral structure and strong ageing potential. Enjoy with grilled snapper, roast chicken, pork, seafood or herb-based dishes, or cellar through the 2030s and beyond for further development.
